Advancing West Virginia Through Outdoor Recreation

With support from the Appalachian Regional Commission, West Virginia’s $9B outdoor economy is set for even greater expansion. This grant establishes the CORE Initiative, focused on strengthening local businesses, enhancing recreational infrastructure, and expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation across the state.

Science Adventure School (SAS) is an adventure-based, outdoor science program dedicated to empowering and educating WV youth. We integrate adventure sports-driven STEM activities with engaging environmental curriculum for a distinct focus on student development through experiential education.

Mapping outdoor recreation assets in the Mountain State highlights the wealth of our natural resources. Our whitewater, fly-fishing, trails, and rock climbing set us apart from other destinations in that they are valuable, rare, and cannot be imitated.
