What we're doing

The Brad and Alys Smith Outdoor Economic Development Collaborative offers invaluable learning experiences to elementary, middle and high school youth through programs linking outdoor education, recreation, positive youth development and science. Sparking both a love of learning and being outside, the Smith OEDC provides steppingstones for the next generation of innovators, educators and outdoor enthusiasts.

Science Adventure School

This adventure-based, outdoor science school is dedicated to empowering and educating West Virginia’s youth through outdoor adventure and hands-on STEM and environmental learning.

Science Behind the Sport

As hands-and-feet-on STEM education for K-12 youth, Science Behind the Sport develops curriculum for Science Adventure School and is a component of the Youth Cycling Coalition pilot program.

The YCC's mission is to give access and experiences to all kids, ultimately integrating cycling into the fabric of local communities and fostering a love of biking that lasts from youth into adulthood.

Greg Corio

Assistant Vice President for Outdoor Youth Advocacy and Initiatives

As the Assistant Vice President for Outdoor Youth Advocacy and Initiatives, Greg Corio oversees initiatives such as Science Behind the Sport, Science Adventure School and acts as the liaison between the Youth Cycling Coalition and other associated partnerships. Corio’s 18 years at West Virginia University has focused on outdoor recreation and education starting as the founder of Adventure WV, and evolving into the vision for what the Collaborative is today. His focus lies on improving the state of West Virginia by making a difference in students lives through the power of the great outdoors.
